The MAST headquarters is a renovation and adaptive reuse of an existing retail building into the office and ambulance maintenance facility for the MAST Ambulance Services and Trust.
Shaughnessy Fickel and Scott Architects Inc. provided complete architectural and interior design services for the facility, which contains 41,000-square feet of headquarter's office space and 43,000-square feet of vehicle and equipment maintenance space. The vehicle maintenance area includes an eight-bay garage with four lights for vehicle service, storage for 40 ambulances and spare parts, equipped with internal vehicle wash. The vertical bays also include decontamination, medical supplies storage and restocking space.
Training space in the headquarters includes a 64-seat, tiered classroom that has audio-visual capabilities and three multipurpose rooms with operable partitions to allow for classroom size and flexibility.
Additional features of the facility include administrative offices, a 911 communications center, emergency power generator, fitness center and shower/locker/sleeping quarters for the ambulance crews.
MAST Headquarters is listed as the winner for Excellence in Architecture, AIA/Kansas City in 2000.
